4 Steps I Use To Set Quarterly Goals

I’ve been following my interpretation of The Twelve Week Year since the beginning of 2022, and I just finished up my first “year”. “Year” sounds weird to me, so I just call them quarters. They are quarters. I know the book specifically says not to call them that, but I do. Deal with it, Brian P. Moran.

But now it’s time to kick off a new quarter, so I’m going to go through my process for brainstorming and setting the goals that I’ll work on for the next 12 weeks. Then, the thirteenth week in the quarter is for rest and planning for next quarter. I really like the inclusion of this rest week. I felt like I really needed it at the end of Q1.

Before we get into it, here’s a little context about me: I’m a software engineer by day, and also a software engineer by night. I work full time as a lead engineer and on the side I am working on developing a video game and doing content-related projects like YouTube and Medium.

In an effort to focus my energy, I’ve divided my goals into 4 categories that are prioritized in order: Software, Mortal Vessel, Simple Wealth, and Media Community. I’m already finding that some goals overlap these categories a bit, so I just categorize them in a way that feels right.
