Build Your Own Curriculum To Learn Anything

The internet is a vast ocean of educational materials. And… other stuff, too, but I want to talk about its educational potential. You can learn anything you want from the internet, and you don’t even have to look that hard for most of it. Type “how to” into Google, and 25 billion results come up instantly. I’m not even exaggerating, I got 25 billion results.

That’s as much as gift as it is an obstacle. When there’s so much information available, how do you know which pieces of information, and in which order, you need in order to master a new skill? How do you know where to begin?

This is where I recommend building out a curriculum. Decide which specific sub-topics you want to learn about, gather resources to help you practice those topics, and add them to a schedule. A schedule is useful to estimate how long something will take to learn, but also to keep yourself moving. A schedule creates deadlines, and those deadlines can encourage you to keep moving forward.
