How I’m Setting Goals for 2023 Quarter 1

And what those goals actually are.

We’re at the precipice of another new year, if you can believe it.

I’ve never been one for resolutions in their traditional form, as they tend to be too vague to be useful, but I love using the energy of a new year to set goals and prepare myself for another quarter. That’s how I usually do goal-setting: by the quarter.

It’s worked for me so far, and there’s no reason to change what works. I’ve been using a modified version of the Twelve Week Year, a system developed by Brian Moran, and I find that a twelve-week plan is long enough that I can get a lot of things done, but short enough that my plan is still relevant at the end of it, even as unexpected life events come up.

Brainstorming

The first thing to do when setting any goals is come up with ideas. Get your thoughts in order. Brainstorm. For quarterly planning, like the Twelve Week Year, it’s recommended to set goals that are very ambitious. Things that you would normally expect to finish within a year.

By compressing the timeline from a year to a quarter, you’re adding some pressure to yourself to complete your tasks, but (in most cases) not to an impossible degree.
