The Most Important Thing To Do Is Anything at All

Doing things is hard.

I’m writing this as part admission of guilt and part motivation.

We all want things. Well, most of us want things. I suppose there’s some small sliver of the population that has reached enlightenment, and identified all “wanting” as the source of human suffering. But the rest of us simply suffer on, wanting things that we may or may not be able to have.

The things that we can have rarely come free. Whether we have to pay in money, or time, or energy, or social pull, we have to pay something for the things we want.

I haven’t been paying my due this year.

At least, not at the level I had hoped for. I’ve been working on developing a game (an auto-chess game, similar to Teamfight Tactics) for the past two years.I am desperate to finish it and get it out there, mostly so I can take all that creative energy and start a fresh, new project.

I started the year with lofty goals, but maintaining my health-focused habits, dealing with home renovations after flooding, and balancing all my side-project work with my day job has been more than I expected. We’re nearly at the end of January and I’ve smashed a few bugs and done little else to make progress on my game.
